The One Minute Solution to Fear and Chaos

Let's face it we live in a world of fear and chaos and this often leads to despair and/or lethargy. I often feel overwhelmed by sadness and the inability to act. Especially when it comes to creating art. Just look at how long it has been since I posted on this blog.

A friend recently reached out to me through e-mail. They found me through my artwork posted on ETSY. That simple e-mail sparked life in me. It roused a need to act, to cast off despair and laziness.

I made a decision. I am not in the art business. Quite frankly I am not good at art as a business. I am still an artist and I will still create art, but there is so much more I want to do and be that just can not be defined by the creation of art alone. So I am expanding my efforts a bit.

I am going into the business of Inspiration. Where there is darkness, I want to bring light. Where there is despair, I want to bring hope. I will use whatever creativity and ability comes my way to accomplish this. What is more, it is a cause worth dedicating my life to.

While I myself can not create inspiration, I see it in the everyday that is my life. My wife is a tremendous source of inspiration for me. She makes me smile and she makes me live. She does things that are so her, and I love her for it. For example, my wife can not sleep in a messy bed. She must make the bed or she can not rest. It is fun to make it for her to show her that I love her.

She asked me if I thought her weird because of this need of hers, but I said no. I told her that making the bed brought a measure of control and order to her life. And then it hit me. Making the bed takes no more then a minute and in a small way fights off those unseemly pests of fear and chaos.

So if you are sad or afraid, locked in despair, totally without hope for a better world, if the blackness of life is closing in and crushing you, make your bed. It will make you smile. And it just might help you to keep trying.

Good post! I love the new career path: you'll be fantastic at it, since it's what you've always done, anyway. It's always inspiring to see people overcome their demons and rise to new levels.

You're a great husband. I can't remember the last time I made the bed.
